Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS)

Important Information

HMRC are not allowing us to make the claim for you using our agent log ins.

You MUST register for a HMRC self-assessment log in.

Important Steps

  • Use the eligibility checker to see if you are entitled to claim.
  • This will then show you the process to apply for HMRC logins and provide a date you can claim
  • Ensure you have your UTR number and national insurance number to hand
  • If you are unsure, watch HMRC’s short animation
  • Please share the calculation with us if you think it is incorrect

Last week HMRC started to contact those that they think will be eligible for 41 SEISS based on the information they provided in their 2018-19 tax return.

Am I eligible?

HMRC are also inviting people to use their online checker which will quickly confirm if you are eligible and give you a specific date that you can claim.

To use the checker, you will need;

  • Your 10-digit UTR number (This can be found on HMRC letters or copy tax returns we will have sent you.
  • Your national insurance number.

If you need help obtaining any of this information, please contact us, preferably by email (we don’t always have a member of staff covering the telephone) to your normal point of contact or

Once you have completed the checker, if you are eligible, you will be given a date by HMRC that you can make the claim. This is at random and is purely to manage demand.

The checker also includes guidance to set up your self-assessment log in. There will be no requirement to wait for pins/codes through the post. Access will be instant. You will need a form of ID, such as an up to date passport.

How will the application process work?

The application process will show you how HMRC has calculated the grant that you are due to receive. You will be able to share this with us.

If you wish to seek a review of this calculation, we can do this on your behalf however HMRC state that the checker has an extremely high accuracy rate as they are using information that has already been provided to them.

A word about scams

We are aware that an increase in scam emails, calls and texts. Eligible clients will be invited to claim through GOV.UK-it is the only service you can use.

If someone gets in touch claiming they are from HMRC, saying that financial help can be claimed or that a tax refund is due and asks you to click on a link or to give information such as your name, credit card or bank details, please do not respond.
